Late August Post

Published by under NES News and Updates

The Red placement cards were mailed late last week in an effort to have them delivered by the week of August 22nd. I want to personally let you know that the NES staff spent hours ensuring each child was carefully placed and classes were well balanced.

We are excited to add to our staff this year a full time Math Interventionist/Coach. This new staff member will be able to ensure we can give the extra help needed to our Tier Three Math Intervention students!

As the budget gets tighter, we appreciate any donations you can provide to your child’s classroom such as tissue boxes and glue sticks. We thank you in advance for considering donating a few of these items!

Our building is in great shape. Freshly cleaned, painted where necessary, additional outside lightning, and improved security with our new four screen outside camera. This allows us to see more doors than before.

Enjoy the rest of the summer and we will see you soon!

May Post

Published by under NES News and Updates

Happy May NES!
I truly cannot believe how quickly this year has gone by. My dad would tell me that as I got older the days, weeks, and months would fly by….and he was right!

We have started to meet about the placements for next year. Please return your allergy form and parent perspectives by the second week of May if you have any input you would like us to keep in mind.

A big thank you to all of our wonderful NES volunteers! This year we honored our consistent volunteers with a special card and pen set mailed home. We decided not to do the volunteer tea since in the last few years attendance has been very low. By sending a small gift home, we were able to honor ALL of our consistent volunteers and not just the few who were able to attend the volunteer tea.

We have many exciting events planned for the rest of the year including two in school assemblies, the 4 th grade talent show, field day, flag day parade, and
4 th grade Remembrance Day!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact Lisa or myself.

April Post

Published by under NES News and Updates

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Happy Spring! It finally feels like Winter is behind us. Just a few updates to share with you as you plan for the rest of the school year.
After April vacation, we start planning for the next school year. We look at schedules, programming, and of course class lists. Please understand that we spend much time and effort trying to balance the classes with boy girl ratios, high/middle and low level students, as well as behavioral issues. The entire NES faculty is involved in this process. You will be receiving a packet after April vacation to fill out. This packet includes a parent perspective sheet, an allergy form, and a form to fill out if your child will not be attending NES next year. We need this packet back no later than May 9th. After that date, we will be starting our placement meetings and need everything “at the table” when we begin. A reminder to please NOT request individual teachers on any of these forms. We are not even certain at his point exactly what our staffing will be due to possible retirements, medical leaves, and the final school budget. If you do not fill out and return this packet, we will take that as meaning that you do not have any input to share or allergy classroom placement concerns.
A few months ago, I wrote to you asking for some feedback about our Open House format. The School Improvement Team as well as the faculty has also been discussing this. After gathering all this input, Lisa and I have decided it is in the best interest of the school to have the Open Houses on two separate nights. This will avoid overcrowding and parking issues. We will also be having parent informational events during which parents/guardians only will attend to hear about grade level programming. More information to come of course, but we wanted to at least get back to you about where we stood on this issue.
As Always, if you have any questions or concerns please contact Lisa or myself,
Gail Dandurand
Principal, NES

March Post

Published by under NES News and Updates

Hi NES Familes!
I hope you had a nice February break. Just a few things to report this month:
*Don’t forget that our long awaited Winter concert is this month! We had to cancel twice this year due to snowdays. New tickets will be issued to families of the band and chorus sometime during the first week of March. Due to fire codes, we do need to collect these tickets at the door to ensure we are in code capacity regulations. In an effort to be fair, we are issuing each band/chorus student with five tickets. If you are not using all five tickets, please return them to Mr. Andrea in the Music room in case a family needs an extra ticket. These tickets are for the evening performance only. The daytime performance is filled to capacity with the entire student body and staff attending. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in keeping our kids safe!
*The staff has been working on creating “Move Up” pamphlets. These pamphlets are to assist with the k-1. 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4th grade transitions. We already do a nice job with the pre-k-k and 4th-5th grade transitions with our special orientation nights. So, be looking for these move up pamphlets in your child’s reportcards. The pamphlets will give you ideas of things to do to prepare your child over the summer for the next grade as well as outline some things that are different about the next grade. This was done in an effort to help students and parents ease into the next grade level and was actually the result of parents asking for a little something like this at a September PTO meeting!
*A reminder to please be sure your child dresses for outdoor recess. We do go out unless it is cold, snowing, or raining.

Have a great month!

Happy New Year NES Families!

I truly hope this year brings you all health and happiness.
A reminder to please be sure your child dresses for the cold weather. They need some type of a coat to be able to go out to recess.
Also, as we approach Valentine’s Day, please remember that candy does not fit into our healthy food policy. Please keep this in mind if you plan on shopping for Valentines in the next few weeks.

Have a Happy New Year!

November/December Post

Published by under NES News and Updates

Hello NES!
We have been very busy at NES these past few weeks.
The 3rd and 4th graders finished up their NECAP testing. They worked very hard and we are so proud of their efforts. These results will not come back to us for a few months. In January, we have been invited to participate in NAEP testing which is a National assessment.
We are trying to update our NES List  so we can try to go a little more “green.” We are uploading all e-mail addresses sometime in the month of November.
As we enter the holiday season, please remember our food policy for classroom events: food safe vendor, attention to allergies in the classroom, and a healthy component.

Have a great Thanksgiving and Holiday Season!

October Post

Published by under NES News and Updates

Dear NES Families,
Welcome back to a brand new school year! We had a very smooth opening this year. The building looks
great and the staff and students are ready for a new year!
This year we are continuing with our increased enrichment opportunities including foreign language,
before school band for upperclassmen, lunch enrichment opportunities, after school enrichment programs,
and we have also added technology as one of the seven week common planning time offerings!
The children came back to the new piece of playground equipment that was installed a few days before
the end of last school year. This piece was purchased jointly by the PTO and the school district. It is made
from partially recycled materials and allows students to “work out” during recess if they desire to.
This year, we will be doing our portfolios a little different. This change is based on feedback we have had
from both parents and teachers. In the past, the teachers held onto work samples to be sent home at report
card time. Although it is nice to see all this work together, feedback has indicated that people would rather
get the work samples throughout the trimester. So, this year we will be sending work home as it is
completed and teachers will only be holding onto a few key pieces from each trimester to be sent
home in an end of the year showcase portfolio to show growth from September until June.
Each year, the state creates a school report card. Ours is online on the NES Homepage. If you are unable
to get onto the Internet, there are copies available in the office. Either stop by or call us and we will be sure
to get one to you. We are very proud of our report card results! We had 13 targets evaluated and met 13/13
targets. We also have been classified as meeting AYP (Annual Yearly Progress).
We look forward to working with you and your families this year!
